Note: The following content has come from the first round of submissions about the National Cultural Policy, in January 2010. Since then there has been another round. Hopefully we will update this section with even more interesting ideas that have come up as part of that discussion. For now, you can click here to read our submission, or read on…
Here are some of the ideas that can be found in the submissions to the National Cultural Policy discussion:
- Hold a round table with government and young people interested in the arts and culture to discuss the implications for young people (YPAA)
- We need a Creator’s Charter (APRA)
- The Government should support and enable innovation (CHASS and MCA)
- Education is important to enable young people to engage with and participate in the arts (CHASS, Australia Council, APRA, MCA)
- Technology is playing a role in giving young people creative autonomy (YPAA)
- Many of the programs for young people in the arts have assumed that young people are part of the mainstream (YPAA)
- Programs for young people in the arts need to be well documented so that we can see what works (YPAA)
- Centrelink should take into account people who are career artists (YPAA and MEAA)
- A Superannuation fund should be established for artists who engage in casual work (YPAA)
- We need to take a good look at musicians’ wages (YPAA and Australia Council)
