Australia Day Honours list

The following people have been awarded in the Australia Day 2011 Honours List. Congratulations to all of them for their contribution to musical life in Australia. They include educators, musicians from a range of genres, arts administrators and leaders, local heroes, composers, and most fit into more than one of those categories!

Perhaps there are no “young musicians” in the Honours list since the Australia Day Honours primarily recognises long-term contributions to the community but  most (if not all) have made an important contribution to the lives of young musicians.

Ben Hauptmann Wins the 2010 MCA Freedman Jazz Fellowship

Top honours for youth music leaders

Congratulations to some leaders in youth music programs who have been recognised in the 2010 Queens Birthday Honours list.

Mr Leonard Amadio was recognised for his work with the Australian Youth Orchestra as a Director and throughout his long association with the orchestra.

Sandy Evans has been a leader in programs for young women in jazz, particular through the Jazz Improvisation Workshops for Young Women and the Jann Rutherford Memorial Award. Her work as an educator and mentor is influencing a generation of young women in Australian jazz.
